The Indonesian government took two substantial social distancing measures: Work, Study and Worship from Home and Large-scale Social Restriction (“PSBB”). The former requires closure of all business offices, school and worship places, while the later requires additional limiting activities on public facilities as well as transportation between provincial borders. We evaluated the impact of these measures on society mobility and the growth rate of confirmed COVID-19 cases. Synthetic control design and an event-study design adapted for continuous treatment are utilized. Google mobility report and official case counts from each of the 34 provinces in Indonesia between February 16, 2020 and May 7, 2020 are used. We present our research findings and some policy recommendations.
