Forum Kajian Pembangunan (FKP) wrapped up its 2024 activities with record-breaking engagements. With 41 diverse events hosted by 26 organizations, FKP drew over 9,000 participants—a significant increase from last year. Most attendance was online (83%). The hybrid format proved highly effective, with attendees joining in-person, via Zoom, and through YouTube livestreams.

In 2024, we saw a return back to in person events. Half (20) events were held in person, all but 5 of these were live streamed and/or recorded. Hopefully going forward FKP events can be a venue to strengthen networking and collaboration amongst researchers, decision-makers and the wider development community of practitioners.

Key highlights of 2024 included special events like the 18th Sadli Lecture, which tackled labor market inequality, and the Hadi Soesastro Policy Forum, focusing on climate collaboration between Indonesia and Australia. The highly attended FKP Roadshow in Ternate and Ambon showcased innovations in public health and NGO roles in Eastern Indonesia, drawing regional audiences and enriching local discourse. The year’s most popular event, Energy transitions towards net zero emissions, attracted an impressive 890 attendees across platforms. It featured Kornelis Blok, Professor of Energy Systems Analysis (Delft University of Technology), lead author of International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports. IPCC was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007 for their contribution to understanding climate change.

In 2024, FKP featured 120 speakers, with 51 (43%) being female, 23 (19%) affiliated with international organizations, and 24 (20%) affiliated with an Indonesian organization located off Java. Themes such as gender equality and environmental sustainability were prominent, comprising 23 and 17 events, respectively. Notable growth was seen in environmental topics, up from just 7 events in 2023.

FKP expanded its digital footprint in 2024 with website traffic increasing significantly and the launch of new social media platforms like TikTok and Bluesky. Website traffic rose by 84%, and page views increased by 162%.  FKP’s YouTube channel now hosts 712 videos, with the most-viewed  video of the year, a session on sustainable agriculture, attracting over 4,000 views.

In December, FKP held its annual Organizing Committee meeting, attended by 20 representatives from 17 organizations. The Coordinator position was handed over from Joy Elly Tulung (Universitas Sam Ratulangi) to Satyani Oktaviningsih (Bank Indonesia Institute/BINS) for 2024-2025. The Committee elected Apsari Anandari (FEB Universitas Udayana) as Vice Coordinator 2024-2025 (and automatically Coordinator for 2025-2026).

Looking forward to 2025, FKP plans to expand its regional presence with a roadshow in Papua and explore collaborations on topics including adaptive social protection, corporate decarbonization, and capital formation. These efforts will aim to enhance FKP’s role as a platform for inclusive, data-driven discussions on Indonesia’s development priorities.
